Capilano University, Juniors to Masters Chess Academy, and Vancity Chess, in collaboration, will host the 2024 BC Women's Open at CapU Lonsdale on the second floor of The Shipyards in North Vancouver, BC.

The 2024 BC Women's Open will run alongside the 2024 BC Closed Championship (by invitation) and the 2024 Western Canadian Open (register using this link).

Date/Time: Saturday, Oct 12 to Monday, Oct 14, 2024

Schedule and Round Times:  
Sat, Oct 12: Round 1 at 10am
Sat, Oct 12: Round 2 at 3pm
Sun, Oct 13: Round 3 at 10am
Sun, Oct 13: Round 4 at 3pm
Mon, Oct 14: Round 5 at 10am
Mon, Oct 14: Round 6 at 3pm

Time Control: 90 mins + 30 secs increment

Tournament Fee:
* Free entry for eligible BC Women Players rated 1800+ if register before Aug 12, 2024; also see Eligibility section below. Email: jtmchessacademy@gmail.com

If rating < 1800, then entry fee:
* Early bird $50 + GST: Until Aug 12, 2024 – midnight.
* Regular $65 + GST: Until Oct 9, 2024 - midnight.

No onsite registration.

Rated: CFC and FIDE Rated.

Byes:  Only one 1/2 point bye is allowed; no bye allowed for last round.

Prizes: $500 for 1st, $300 for 2nd, $200 for top U1500
In addition, BCCF will provide a $1,000 travel grant to the highest finisher who attends the next Canadian Women’s Championship.

Eligibility:
1. Participants in the BC Women's Open must reside in BC and:
a. Have resided in BC for a total of at least six months in the 12 months prior to the start of the BC Women's Chess Championship; or
b. Have resided in BC for the three months prior to the start of the BC Women's Open.

2. Participants in the BC Women's Open must be members of the CFC. A tournament membership is not allowed for this tournament.

* Normally, the BC Women's Championship is a RR by invitation, but for this year's, BCCF has decided hold an Open tournament and will waive the criteria that participants must have played 5 CFC regular rated games in British Columbia in the preceding 12 months not including the previous BC Women's Chess Championship.

Juniors to Masters Chess Academy Inc. is the provider of the National Training Program for Canadian Youths, as sanctioned by the Chess Federation of Canada. Juniors to Masters Chess Academy Inc. was founded by GM Gergely Szabo and Victoria Doknjas. GM Gergely Szabo has been Team Canada’s Head Coach at WYCC, WCCC, World U16 Youth Olympiad, and the Women’s Olympiad. Victoria has been Team Canada’s Head of Delegation at multiple WYCCs and NAYCCs.

Additionally, JtM In-House Masters include published chess book authors (Everyman Chess), FM Joshua Doknjas and FM John Doknjas, as well as NM Neil Doknjas, IM Nicholas Vettese, IM Adrian Musat, GM Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux, and WGM Maïli-Jade Ouellet.
